Evaluation Question 2.

The audience can recognise my ancillary texts as linked products due to the same backgrounds, colours, and images I used across all my ancillary products.

I think my main and ancillary texts are very successful because you can see they are clearly linked together with synergy and have a clear relation with the music video. Also, I think the design of my media products are well suited to Haze's target audience.

I think my target audience will be attracted to them because Haze's target audience are young females around the ages of 16-24 from urban areas. Firstly, I think the main colour of red and pink will be deemed attractive by the female audience. Also, I think the audience will like elements of  Haze's costume such as hoop earrings, bomber/leather jacket as these are items similar to what our audience would wear.

As you can see from the gif of Jess Glynne's digipak, music video, and website you can clearly see her use of synergy. For example, the pale pink background exhibits in throughout all her media products. I have done the same with my media products by using similar backgrounds. Jess Glynne's music shows her with wet hair. This again is incorporated across all her media products such as her website and digipak. I have done something similar by incorporating Haze's hoop earrings and signature red lip from the music video across my media products such as my digipak and website.

Evaluation Question 4.

Final finished digipak

The top photo is the outside of my finished Digipak. I am pleased with it especially because i was able to flip the image and give it the colours that were part of my synergy. It also links with the music video well because that looks like one of the locations that was used. The inside also links well as the layers behind were from another location and also has a 'haze' affect.

From the feedback I have received, I made slight changes including adding the record label's logo on to the spine along with the serial number. I also brightened the album title, as I was told that it did not stand out as much as the 'bonus tracks' title did. For the inside of the Digipak, I darkened the background, as I felt that the silhouette was not bright enough and didn't stand out as much as it could. I also included rights to the bottom of the CD and arched it around the shape of the CD.

Evaluation; Question 1

Q1. in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

From the prior research that I have done into conventions of music videos, I stuck to it and developed it further. In the genre house pop, it consists upbeat music that has a fast tempo. Also in terms of mise-en-scene, I stuck to using various wide-spaced locations that was quite vibrate, bright ad cheerful. Like other videos, I made sure that the costume did not clash with the vibrant setting. I also used a lot of jump cuts which is a huge convention of music videos in this genre which is mentioned in Carol Vernallis' theory. The music video was disjuncture which is part of Andrew Goodwin's theory when considering pop video's.

I also followed Goodwin's theory by ending the music video with a fade.

Although, my music video doesn't have a particular narrative, some conventions of Carol Vernallis was executed in my work. For example, the camera was never still in my music video. I deliberately used many special effects in post production which is also part of this theory.

When considering Laura Mulvey's representation on representation, subconsciously my video doesn't show women in a seductive way, the woman in my music video was very active rather than the usual passivity they have in music video's. Her body in my music video was not dismembered in a seductive way.

My Music video follows the conventions the songs genre well including; dancing, bright colours and special effects.

When it comes to the Digipak, I also followed the conventions. I had a close up of the artist and made sure that the artist name is extremely visible and a clear representation of the music and her name. I kept the digipak clear as that is common in this genre of music and I used Karen Hardings digipak cover as a close representation but developed the colours more to match the music video.
With the website, I particularly paid attention to the header of my website and realised that the social media links and the artist names are commonly placed there. They also include an extremely large close up of the artist in the top of the website which is convention to this genre as the artist is usually the focus.

Evaluation; Question 4

The audience feedback was particularly important, especially in the last stages of editing. In the video above, I asked people what they thought about the rough cut of the video. I deeply analysed the comments and altered a few things to get the present music video. From the feedback, the lip syncing needed to be matched more closely but people enjoyed the jump cuts and the colours we used. Also we also got told that they wanted to see the artists' face as more of an introduction. We also got told that one of our locations didn't match in terms of quality in comparison to the rest due to the camera showing it as grainy. From all of this feedback, my group and myself went away and worked on our flaws and it showed that we done well due to the feedback we received at our cinema screening.

Due to the way I responded to the audience feedback, the feedback from the cinema premiere was extremely positive. Audience feedback is essential to my media products and ancillary text as it allowed me to make sure my work was up to par and that it was pleasing to the target audience.

EVALUATION: Question 2

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT (VIDEO) AND ANCILLARY TEXTS (DIGIPAK & BAND WEBSITE)?

Overall, I think the combination of the main product and ancillary texts are very effective. This is because the artist has the same look in all three products, the same location features in them and the colour scheme remains the same. These features allow the audience to form a link between the products and notice that they are linked together. This enables my products to have synergy which helps them be more effective. If my video remained the same but when creating the ancillary products, I would have created a black and white theme, the audience would get confused as there is no element of black and white in my main product. Therefore for all the products to be successful, I believe they need to have the same or similar features as this helps the audience form a link.

Reflection on Progress (Blogging Health Check 3)

Since my last blogging health check, I have moved up a grade. My blogging mainly focused on planning our music video, showing our different ideas. There are also posts showing filming in all our locations and getting feedback from different audience members about how we could improve our music video even more.

These are the inside and outside covers of my digipak. As you can see I have used similar colours, images and texts to help create synergy.
